Trump & Biden's chickens come home to roost: Support of Bolsonaro
This foreign policy did NOT start under Biden. It has been going on since Trump. The problem isn't just a political party, it is a foreign policy problem.
Bolsonaro in Brazil is a vocal opponent of same-sex marriage and homosexuality, abortion, affirmative action, drug liberalization, and secularism. In foreign policy, he has advocated closer relations to the United States.
I find it fascinating these are all issues most progressives support. So why did Biden support him?
Liberalism is a two faced belief system. Let me explain.
Liberals claim they are anti- torture. BUT- if a suspect is taken out of the country to be tortured- there is nothing wrong with that.
Search TORTURE UNDER OBAMA GITMO.
Yep, they support torture as long as it doesn't happen on our soil.
They are not ethically opposed to torture.
Let's look at Bolsonaro's record.
Bolsonaro placed many army officers in key positions in his cabinet.
Bolsonaro's response to the COVID-19 pandemic in Brazil was criticized across the political spectrum after he sought to downplay the pandemic and its effects, opposed quarantine measures, and dismissed two health ministers, while the death toll increased rapidly.
Didn't Biden and his progressives attack people that advocated those measures for 4 years?
Not in Brazil they didn't!
When he was in the military Veja reported that, with an Army colleague, he had plans to plant bombs in military units in Rio de Janeiro. After Bolsonaro called the allegation "a fantasy", the magazine published, in its next issue, sketches in which the plan was detailed. The drawings had been allegedly made by Bolsonaro. Official records unearthed by the newspaper O Estado de S. Paulo in 2018 detailed the case. After an investigation by an administrative military bureau named Justification Board, Bolsonaro was unanimously considered guilty. According to this board, Bolsonaro had a "serious personality deviation and a professional deformation", "lack of moral courage to leave the Army" and "lied throughout the process" when denying frequent contacts with Veja. The Supreme Military Court then analyzed the case. The general in charge of reporting the case voted to acquit Bolsonaro, arguing that he had already been penalized for the initial Veja article, that there was no testimonial evidence of his plans to plant bombs, and that there were "deep contradictions in the four graphological exams", two of which failed to conclude that Bolsonaro was the author of the sketches. Bolsonaro was acquitted by the majority of the court (9 x 4 votes). In December 1988, just after this ruling, he left the Army to begin his political career.
But that wasn't enough to stop Biden and the DNC from supporting him!
In 2020, the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP), an international non-governmental organization that investigates crime and corruption, gave Bolsonaro its Person of the Year Award, which "recognizes the individual who has done the most in the world to advance organized criminal activity and corruption". Bolsonaro received the award for "surrounding himself with corrupt figures, using propaganda to promote his populist agenda, undermining the justice system, and waging a destructive war against the Amazon region that has enriched some of the country’s worst land owners."
In an interview with Zero Hora in 2015, Bolsonaro argued that men and women should not receive the same salaries, because women get pregnant, adding that he believes federal law mandating paid maternity leave harms work productivity.
In a public speech in April 2017, Bolsonaro said he had five children, that the first four were male and that for the fifth he produced a daughter out of "a moment of weakness".
Take a look at this quote:
The Joe Biden administration has justified its decision not to invite Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela to the Summit of the Americas held
(June 6-10) in Los Angeles by saying that these three countries are ruled by undemocratic regimes. Fine. Democracy is desirable and noble.
But why did the Americans invite Jair Bolsonaro, who is an imminent and clear danger to Brazilian democracy? Are they not aware that the Brazilian president has made his admiration for military dictatorship and contempt for democracy publicly, eloquently and consistently on numerous occasions? He had glorified the army officer who had tortured Dilma Rouseff, the former Brazilian president.
“Elections won’t change anything in this country,” an angry Bolsonaro told an interviewer on the programme Câmara Aberta, broadcast by TV Band in 1999. “It will only change on the day that we break out in civil war here and do the job that the military regime didn’t do, killing 30,000 people. If we kill some innocent people that’s fine because in every war innocent people die.” Shouting at the interviewer, an intemperate Bolsonaro said that if he became president, he would dissolve Congress on his first day in office. UNQUOTE
Let me add this:
So if Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela were indeed not invited to the Summit of the Americas because of their lack of democracy, it is logical that the US should also not have invited Bolsonaro.
Therefore, the US’s decision to invite him may not be logical – but it does serve a purpose. That purpose has nothing to do with democracy or Brazil. The US wants to help Bolsonaro to defeat Lula da Silva, who they consider a threat to US interests.
This foreign policy did NOT start under Biden. It has been going on since Trump.
So the problem isn't just a political party, it is a foreign policy problem. And both parties are to blame for the chaos happening in Brazil. Be seeing you.
